This comedy is loosely based on Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness and the movie Apocalypse Now. Honestly, I can’t recall what prompted me to watch this movie. Maybe it was the cast: Shannon Tweed, Bill Maher, and Adrienne Barbeau. Or, maybe because it was filmed at UCR.

“Spritzer College” from the movie is University of California, Riverside. Professor of feminist studies, Margo Hunt (Shannon Tweed), is recruited by the U.S. government to venture to the Avocado Jungle and contact the Piranha tribe.

One of the professor’s undergraduate students, Bunny (Karen Mistal), joins her on this adventures. These scenes were filmed around the Tomas Rivera Library on campus.

The temple in the Avocado Jungle is the Hollyhock House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright as a residence for oil heiress Aline Barnsdal. The building is located in Barnsdall Art Park in Hollywood.
