The Ghost Busters TV Series Film Locations

Larry Storch, Forrest Tucker, and Bob Burns will always be the original ghost busters. I watched this 1975 live-action children’s show as a child. My fondness for the ridiculous and repetitive nature of the show never ended.

I shared the show with my kiddos. They were not as impressed. I then shared with them the 1986 Filmation’s Ghostbusters animated series sequel. Now that, they liked.

Anyway, I decided to visit the original headquarters of Eddie (Larry Storch), Kong (Forrest Tucker) and Tracy (Bob Burns) in Piru, California.

Piru is a small town located off the scenic California Highway 126 between the major cities of Santa Clarita and Ventura. The small downtown area with a few brick buildings is a common movie and television film location.

About an hour drive from my home, I reached the downtown in the early morning. I immediately recognized the area from the slapstick intros of every episode of the show’s run.

The buildings and surrounding area has not changed dramatically since the filming of this television program in 1975. You can still picture Tracy driving their jalopy down the street to their headquarters.

Piru and the area around it was originally inhabited by the Tataviam Indians. The name Piru comes from the Tataviam word for the reeds growing along Piru Creek.

In 1887 David C. Cook, a strict Methodist and a major publisher of religious books from Illinois, purchased the area from the Del Valle brothers and moved west for health reasons. He founded the town and pretty much controlled everything. His intent was to create a “second Garden of Eden”. He clearly didn’t predict the arrival of this bumbling paranormal investigation team running amok in the downtown in 1975.
