S.S. Lane Victory

SS Lane VictoryLooking for a WWII theme day? Maybe you’re spending the day down in San Pedro and want to brush up on your film locations. Maybe you like ships. Whatever the reason, make sure to stop by the SS Lane Victory.750

The first time I visited was with my wife. We had come down to San Pedro for the Battle of Los Angeles at Fort MacArthur and had some extra time for adventuring. The volunteers were amazing. The next time I visited, I took my buddy for his birthday. A WWII buff, he enjoyed the day visiting the SS Lane Victory, USS Iowa, and Fort MacArthur before downing some suds at Port’s O’Call.

The Lane Victory is a pretty cool film location and their website has a good list of shows, movies, and such that have filmed on the ship.

In terms of history, the Lane Victory’s website says it better that I can:

“Built in 1945, here in Los Angeles, CA, the S.S. Lane Victory served with distinction during World War II, The Korean War, and the Vietnam War as well as in times of peace as part of the merchant fleet. After years of deterioration in mothballs, it took countless hours of restoration to put her back into her original condition by volunteers of the United States Merchant Marine Veterans of World War II. A nationally recognized historic landmark, the S.S. Lane Victory now serves as a living museum and memorial to the service and sacrifices of all Merchant Marine sailors and Navy Armed Guardsmen. Several times each summer she sails into the past on one of her “Victory At Sea” cruises where “old salts” can reminisce, about adventures past, and younger generations can catch a glimpse of bygone times.”SS Lane Victory website
