Your Guide to SoCal Geekery

Planning your SoCal “geek” Valentine’s Day

The Feast of Saint Valentine is almost upon us and you are scratching your head on what to do.

Well, look no further my amorous friend, as I will come to your aid providing a checkoff list for planning a geeky day of love.

My wife has reminded me (on several occasions) that the magical trifecta formula for a perfect Valentine’s Day = Meal + Event + Gift.

But, at this point, if you have not planned anything, at least try to get the meal right.

The Meal

  • Theme Restaurants: What better way to say “I love  you” then cramming some turkey down your mouth while a medieval battle goes on. Or, maybe pirates are more your thing …
  • The Original: Show your loved one that they are super unqiue, by taking them to one of the originals (or close to)…
        • Oldest Operating McDonald’s: 10207 Lakewood Blvd., Downey, CA
        • Original Der Weinerschnitzel:  1362 Gulf Ave., Wilmington, CA
        • Oldest Operating In-N-Out: 2114 East Foothill Boulevard, Pasadena, CA
        • Oldest Operating Bob’s Big Boy:4211 Riverside Drive, Burbank, CA
  • Movie Locations: Share a bite to eat at a restaurant seen in one of your favorite movies…
        • Transformers: Burger King: 1700 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA
        • Terminator: Carrow’s Restaurant: 815 Fremont Ave., South Pasadena, CA
        • The Big Lebowski: Dinah’s Family Restaurant:6521 S Sepulveda Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
        • The Office: Smoke House Restaurant: 4420 West Lakeside Drive, Burbank, CA
        • Twin Peaks: Newcomb’s Ranch Restaurant & Bar, Angeles Crest Hwy, La Canada, CA
        • True Romance: Rae’s Restaurant, 2901 Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica, CA
        • Next: Pann’s Restaurant: 6710 La Tijera Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
        • Phantasm: Fosselman’s Ice Cream: 1824 W. Main Street, Alhambra, CA
  • DIY: That’s right … make something for your loved one. Nothing says “I love you” quite like a home cooked meal and if you can make it look like something Lieutenant Commander Worf would scarf down … all  the better.

I know I have left off your favorite restaurant or website on fantasy food … so let me know … I loved to hear from you.

Happy Valentine’s
