First Taco Bell Downey, California

Luckily, I had visited the First Taco Bell when checking out the oldest operating McDonald’s in Downey.

In January of 2015, Seafood Tacos Raul, the former occupant of the 1st Taco Bell building relocated. This means that the first home of the fast-food chain opened by founder Glen Bell in 1962 is without a plan for its future and therefore may be demolished. If you are a fan, support the Downey Conservancy and use #Savetacobell! on your tweets.

Glen Bell owned and operated a number of restaurants in Southern California. He is a distinct figure in Fast Food history. You can read more of his exploits, including his involvement with Der Wienerschnitzel, in “Taco Titan: The Glen Bell Story” by Debra Lee Baldwin.
