Wondering what 2079 will look like? Or, you’re a PKD movie fan? Earth Security Administration? Alpha Centurians? Make your way out to Cal Poly Pomona and visit the Classroom, Laboratory & Administration Building, commonly known as the CLA Building.

Also seen in Gattaca, the CLA Building is the defining image of Cal Poly Pomona. Designed by Albuquerque, New Mexico-based architect Antoine Predock in the Futurist style, construction was completed in 1993.

“Inevitably, human settlement alters the landscape. Successive habitation has altered the Pomona Valley from the original dry swept earth of Rancho San Jose. Now the verdant Arabian horse ranch of W.K.Kellogg coexists with the technological, superscale freeway interchange. The Cal Poly building is truly a gateway building, visible from the freeways, the local flight patterns, and across the entire Pomona Valley.” – Antoine Predock

Well, the futuristic “gateway” building will becoming to an end. Maybe.

The state Legislature has approved $76.5 million in funding to replace the CLA with a new building. Construction on the new student services building started in 2017 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.

Although funding and tear down schedule have not been set, the future is coming to an end.

So, get over there and visit!
