Gage and DeSoto.

Two names that still resonate to this day.

096As a young kid in the 1970s, Emergency! was a favorite show. One Saturday afternoon, I decided a trip down memory lane was in order and I drove down to Carson to visit the station.

Although the show used the number 51 (because at the time Station 51 did not exist), the actual station that was used was Station 127. The station is located on a sparsely populated industrial stretch of Carson. I pulled up and it looks almost exactly as it did when the show premiered in January of 1972.

The show was created and produced by Jack Webb and Robert A. Cinader. Their shows brought a lot of joy to  my childhood. Besides Emergency!, they were responsible for Dragnet and Adam-12. The station has a plaque with more information regarding Robert.

John Gage (Randolph Mantooth) and Roy DeSoto (Kevin Tighe) were awesome television heroes. The two represented specially trained firefighters who were part of an innovative new approach known as Paramedics. Strange to think Paramedics was a new concept back in the 1970s and the fact this show helped push that career forward.

Anyway, visit, respect, and enjoy.
