Film Location Devil’s Hand (1961)

This movie has nothing to do with the Devil’s hand, but everything to do with Gamba – the Great Devil-God of Evil!

Watch this movie. I got it on a Mill Creek value pack with the equally awesome Madmen of Mandoras. This is a gem.

You have a great surf music intro by Baker Knight, a wicked evil god – Gamba -the Great Devil-God of Evil, a luscious evil witch temptress, and the most plain vanilla satanic cult I’ve ever seen, also dolls. And, did I mention that the satanic cult is headed by Frances Lamont – Neil Hamilton, that’s right, our beloved Commissioner Gordon.

Basically, Rick Turner is beset by dreams regarding a blonde temptress. Wandering the streets at night, he finds a doll of her likeness then eventually the real thing – Bianca. Soon, he pushes his current fiancee Donna aside and begins a life of debauchery with Bianca and her cult. He wins at ponies and stocks, attends cult meetings, makes out with Bianca. Overall, he has a pretty swanky life with Bianca. Feeling his ex-girlfriend may still sway him, Bianca and Frances engage in some voodoo satanic cult shenanigans which puts Donna in the hospital. Eventually Rick sees the error of his ways, saves Donna, burns down the cult and drivers off.

I have to say that besides putting Donna into the hospital, you don’t witness a lot of evil this cult is doing. In fact, the cult looks like a chamber of commerce meeting. And if Gamba – the Great Devil-God of Evil is so great, why not just kill Donna off? Just saying.

If you want to visit Gamba’s stomping grounds, well then check out the locations below.

All hail Gamba-the Great Devil-God of Evil!

Film Locations:

Besides a few interior shots, the film’s exterior locations are limited to three areas in Los Angeles: MacArthur Park, Pico Blvd, and 7th Street. I’ll grab some shots of MacArthur Park at a later date and update.

Rick is standing at the corner of W. 7th Street and S. Coronado Street in front of the Garden Court.

Rick is standing in front of Garden Court, 2524-2550 W. 7th Street, Los Angeles. The shot is facing north. You can see 2503 – 2511 W. 7th St building in the background.

The location of Belmont Hospital is 5907 W. Pico Blvd, Los Angeles. The rock design on the wall still remains. In the second shot as Rick and Donna are exiting the hospital, you can see the old PicFair Theater that was located at 5879 W. Pico Blvd, Los Angeles. The Theater and the marquee are gone.

Rick is now back near Garden Court on W. 7th Street. He is running into 2520 W. 7th Street. An apartment complex built in 1909 that sits right to the east of Garden Court.

He is ushering Donna into his car in front of the apartment building.

Now we are at 2510 W. 7th Street, Los Angeles, California. That sits right to the east of the apartment building. The first shot is the alley way between 2520 and 2510. Rick has rescued Donna from the cult.

The following shot shows all three filming locations on W. 7th Street.
